Working for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
I am blessed to continue a two decade long association with the Alvin Ailey company. In the past 20 years I have designed lighting for numerous productions for the Alvin Ailey School, the Ailey Extension, Ailey Camp and Alvin Ailey 2. This year I will design a premier for the first company for the first time. It has been a pleasure to provide illumination to this remarkable organization in all of its various levels of dance instruction and performance.
CPYB: Year 26
Now in my 26th season as lighting designer for Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. almost three decades watching dancers grow up and become stars. CPYB has afforded me the opportunity to light so many wonderful ballets and work with so many gifted dancers and choreographers on over 100 productions.
Working with Universities
I take great pleasure in working with young artists as they learn their craft and begin a journey in the arts. Over my career I have been a visiting artist with the following schools: Berklee College of Music, Point Park, Fordham, Barruch College, George Mason, Clemson, Stanford, Adelphi University and now Dickinson College.
Romeo and Juliet Review
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette review said:
"Lighting design by Josh Monroe effectively intensified more serious moments with severe shadows that heightened the drama."
Review from ADT Mistletoe
The Montgomery Indepent review of the production said:
"Josh Monroe’s lighting designs always create mood, propel action, or can isolate and heighten the importance of a moment. His is such a distinguished contribution to the overall success of this production. He truly makes magic with the limited lighting resources at the Theatre."
